APA-NJ and MAC URISA are co-sponsoring a 3-day workshop with some of the most innovative uses of GIS. MAC URISA is a volunteer organization made up of government and private individuals who provide quality educational programs to the planner and other who use GIS. This is the first time that APA-NJ has co-sponsored this annual workshop and are applying for CM credits for most of the sessions that will be held.

This program  describes the crossover between Conservation Design and the New Urbanism, showing how they can be blended. In areas served by public water and sewer, conservation design techniques can be readily combined with TND principles to create walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods, often involving infill projects and incremental growth around the community's outer edges.

In many places Community Based Organizations (CBO) are on the ground running on their own without support and/or coordination with local government. CBO's are often so focused on the funding necessary to support those vulnerable populations they serve that their interaction with planning at the comprehensive level in consultation with local governments is many times set-aside.
