Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (TCRPC) is seeking experienced candidates for the position of transportation planner. The Commission provides regional and county planning support for a diverse area of about 550,000 people and is the lead planning staff for the Harrisburg Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), which facilitates the implementation of a $425 million, 4-year transportation improvement program.
The position will focus on coordination of the MPO transportation planning program overall, including development and management of the unified planning work program (UPWP). The successful candidate will work within a general outline of work to be performed and can multi-task while working independently or in a group setting.
The position requires knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation planning. The successful planner will lead updates of long-range transportation plans; collect, compile and analyze data to identify project needs and direct the project development process; coordinate safety, congestion and accessibility issues across all modes; and provide leadership support for on-going public participation activities.
The ideal candidate will have relevant prior experience in transportation planning and MPO regulations, a functioning knowledge of GIS, be comfortable working with data, and hold a degree in planning. Strong writing, speaking, and graphic presentation skills are highly desirable. A working knowledge of planning concepts and trends, GIS and computer proficiency are expected. Familiarity with the PA Municipalities Planning Code (MPC) is a plus.
Some local subdivision/land development plan reviews and municipal planning assistance are part of the job. Attendance at evening meetings to support local planning assistance will be required, mileage for which will be reimbursed.
