Webinar: What Economic Development Planners Should Know about Eco-Industrial Development (CM I 1.5)

September 8, 2011 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Reconciling economic development and environmental protection is one of the most difficult challenges facing planners in the 21st Century. Living on a planet with diminishing resources we need to understand how use what we have more efficiently and incorporate the concepts of reuse, cascading of material flows, and greening our businesses into our community planning processes. Learn the basics about Eco-industrial Development from one of the leading practitioners in the field and gain an understanding of how Eco-industrial Development can fit into your sustainability planning efforts. Is there added value in offering technical assistance and educational opportunities to community businesses to assist in greening their operations? What are the roles of economic developers and planners in facilitating by-product exchanges so that one firm’s waste stream is another’s source of raw materials? Join Peter Lowitt, FAICP, Director of the Devens Enterprise Commission and chair of the Industrial Symbiosis Eco-Industrial Development Council of the International Society of Industrial Ecology and developer of two eco-industrial initiatives in this webinar sponsored by the APA Economic Development Division. This course has been submitted for 1.5 CM credits.
