Charles Latini Jr.

President

Charles Latini, Jr., is a land use planner and design professional. Principal owner of L&G Planning and President of the American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter (APA-NJ), he is both a practitioner and public policy advocate. Experience in both the public and private sectors, his main area of focus has been in the area of redevelopment where education and outreach are utilized to build a constituency for better land use planning and community design decisions. His Environmental Planning & Design education from Rutgers University has allowed him to take his interest in urban design and integrate innovative land development approaches together with transportation and open space in a holistic manner. With a strong belief in systems-based planning, his work seeks to positively effect the physical, economic and environmental health of the communities he works with. Chuck has significant experience in both the local and region planning initiatives, beginning his career in municipal government and then at the Office of State Planning and the Transit Friendly Land Use Program at NJ TRANSIT. All of his experiences have informed how he utilizes an open educational approach to address urban planning issues amidst a deep understanding of political realities and the need to improve how we make land development and infrastructure decisions.

As President of the APA-NJ Chuck has led the Chapter to 5 consecutive National awards as of 2015. His work with the APA-NJ Executive Committee ushered in the Certificate Maintenance Program and has produced the Great Places Program, Community Planning Assistance Program, APA-NJ Policy Guides, Legislative relevance and thus a more proactive Chapter that empowers its volunteers toward actions that suit both individual professional growth as well as the advancement of the Chapter. Currently, his work on APA National’s Chapter President’s Council (CPC) is leading toward building a stronger APA, through the “One APA” initiative. He currently sits on the CPC Communications and Leadership Task Forces.
