Senior Planner – Transportation

Description

Reporting to the Supervising Transportation Planner, this position provides direct support to the Transportation Section of the Planning Division in advancing the County’s transportation planning goals, programs, and initiatives. The position is responsible for providing project management, technical planning expertise, and policy analysis for a wide range of transportation planning projects, as well as additional initiatives assigned by the Director.

Essential Functions

  • Administration of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) subregional transportation program.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the County/NJDOT Six-Year Capital Plan and grants/contracts, including project prioritization, modifications and amendments, major transportation problem statement formulation, project status tracking, participation on project selection committees, and administration of the Subregional Transportation Planning Program and Technical Studies Program.
  • Provide project management for local, regional, and countywide transportation projects and liaise with various state agencies.
  • Assist the Supervising Transportation Planner in completing the assigned components of the section’s annual work program.
  • Assist in the preparation of grants.
  • Contribute to the development of the County CIP and state TIP.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation, Geography, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a transportation planning or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning principles.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with federal and state transportation regulations and funding programs.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in planning with specialization in transportation and data analysis, statistics, traffic modeling, and state and federal transportation programs.
  • NJ Professional Planners License and AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners).
  • Advanced courses in GIS, and experience with public meetings, outreach, and report writing

Salary: $50,000 – $66,000 /year
