Demographic and Fiscal Modeling for Environmental Planning

This event will introduce new planning tools for assessing the impacts of development and disasters on local public finances. especially the local property tax. Attendees will learn about a new, freely accessible online database of residential demographic multipliers for estimating the population and service needs associated with increments or decrements of housing development. They will also gain experience with a new, free, accessible, online modeling tool for estimating the local fiscal impacts of disaster scenarios.

Both tools have been validated for New Jersey and can be used in all 50 U.S. states. Attendees will also learn the results of a public opinion survey regarding how to manage flood risks in New Jersey.
