Webinar: Developing Aging-Friendly Communities (CM | 1.5)

February 23, 2011 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

2011 marks the start of the baby boomers entering retirement and increasing the 65+ population to a projected 70.3 million by 2030.  The aging of America is an extraordinary opportunity to critically examine the built environment from the perspective of older people with the goal of creating communities that one can spend their lifetime or age-in-place.  This webinar presented by the Private Practice Division will explore ways in which we can transform the built environment in our communities to meet the needs of an aging society and to make our communities more aging-friendly.  Topics covered include:  the findings from a survey of local aging-friendly policies and programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, strategies and best practices for planners such as the development of Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) and complete streets.
