The Transportation Committee provides a forum for professionals, students and any other interested groups and/or individuals whom have an active interest in advancing the transportation planning policies, programs, practices and regulations as they affect the State of New Jersey. This committee will serve the members of the Chapter by discussing, evaluating and monitoring all things related to transit mobility, such as: commuter rail; light rail; intercity rail (Amtrak); monorail; freight rail; local, regional and interstate bus; paratransit; ferry; airplane; automobile; trucking; maritime shipping; bicycling; pedestrian access; intermodal facilities; train and bus stations; transit oriented development; alternative fuels, etc.

The Transportation Committee will remain at the forefront of the latest legislative or regulatory proposals that may affect the work being done by those whom have an interest in all things related to transit mobility. This Committee will act as a clearinghouse of the latest transportation information, and where necessary, will provide professional guidance and public testimony deemed important to the New Jersey Legislature, public agencies and members of this Chapter. The Transportation Committee will also assist the Chapter by providing educational forums, articles and professional development offerings.

Draft Transportation Policy Guide

As a part of APA-NJ’s two-year Strategic Plan, the Legislative Committee has undertaken the production of policy guides specific to New Jersey issues. These policy guides, once adopted, will serve as a roadmap for the Chapter in advancing legislative priorities by applying advocacy and educational outreach methods throughout the State.

On Thursday, February 24, 2011, the APA-NJ Transportation Committee co-sponsored an event with APA New York Metro entitled “City Street Re-Design:  Sustainable Street of Today and Tomorrow” that featured a panel discussion with regional experts in sustainable streets followed by a workshop.
