SUMMARY:Taking Back the Hackensack: Revitalization of Jersey City's Western Waterfront (CM | 2.75)
DESCRIPTION:May is Watershed Awareness Month! \nThe Hackensack River waterfront in Jersey City represents a major opportunity for economic development. However\, the success of its redevelopment depends on implementation of smart growth principles\, the restoration of the environment\, and the provision of public access to the water’s edge. \nCome hear some of the key players describe their efforts to support a healthier Hackensack River watershed. Speakers include Bob Cotter\, Jersey City Planning Director; Stephen Marks\, Hudson County Planning Director; and Captain Bill Sheehan\, the Hackensack Riverkeeper (invited). Learn about Jersey City’s overall vision for the waterfront as well the specific projects spearheaded by the City\, Hudson County\, and others\, including the Bayfront I redevelopment plan\, the expansion of Lincoln Park\, and the restoration of the Hackensack River. \nThis event includes a walking tour of the existing Hackensack River waterfront walkway. Hugh Carola\, Program Director at the Hackensack Riverkeeper Inc.\, will lead participants on a 1.2 mile-walk along the existing Hackensack River waterfront walkway in Jersey City. Please note that the walk includes segments that are unevenly paved. Please wear appropriate footwear. \nTransportation will be provided between the Hank Gallo Community Center in Lincoln Park and Hackensack River waterfront walkway. \nPlease RSVP to Naomi Hsu at 201-547-5021 or hsun@jcnj.org by 5 PM on Tuesday\, May 10\, 2011. \nSpace is limited. RSVP early to claim your spot!
