SUMMARY:Design on the Delaware (CM | 25)
DESCRIPTION:Ethics and Law CM at Design on the Delaware\nPlanners can earn both their Ethics and Law AICP CM at Design on the Delaware conference October 29 – November 1 in Philadelphia. \nThe conference\, in its 11th year\, offers 23 AICP CM accredited programs in addition to the ethics and law courses. Programs cover a range of planning topics including form based zoning\, campus planning\, Skyplane regulations\, SITES rating system\, and numerous programs focused on urban and suburban projects.  \nPlanners can earn up to 25 AICP CM at the conference. \nAICP CM accredited programs offered at the 2013 conference include: \nEthics for Planning & Design Professionals – 1.5 AICP CM Ethics \nAn up-to-date ethics training for planning and design professionals to achieve AICP Certification Maintenance credits\, including public and private viewpoints\, a review of the AICP code of conduct and ethical dilemma scenarios for discussion. Presented by the American Planning Association Pennsylvania Chapter. \nCreating Form-Based Zoning – 1.5 AICP CM Law \nWith the help of the Montgomery County Planning Commission\, the Borough of Narberth crafted a new system of regulating building form and uses based largely on the New Urbanism’s Smart Code. This session will deconstruct the legislation and investigate the process that formed it for elected officials and practicing planners and architects curious about implementing this technique in their own communities.  \nHurricane Sandy-How Infrastructure Issues Impact Recovery – 1.5 AICP CM \nIn the wake of Hurricane Sandy\, whether the result of climate change or not\, there have been numerous discussions on what the storm means to the development and rebuilding of the coast and the tri-state area.  One of the key components of the redevelopment challenge is how to deal with infrastructural issues; water\, power\, storm water and erosion.  How these challenges are resolved will impact the nature and direction of our environment as we recover and move forward.  A panel of professionals will discuss the decision facing us and the issues driving these decisions.  \nCrowdsourcing Meets Station Area Planning  1.5 AICP CM \nAlthough planners and developers agree that compact mixed-use development belongs around transit hubs\, finding common ground with citizens\, businesses and transit agencies is often daunting. This session highlights three successful case studies where crowdsourcing and social media play an important role in building consensus around the places and businesses cherished by these communities. \nSITES™: Chicago’s Navy Pier\, a Case Study –   1 AICP CM \nThe SITES rating system serves as a framework for guiding and measuring sustainable design of constructed landscapes. This session introduces the Sustainable Sites Initiative\, the SITES rating system\, and the Chicago Navy Pier case study. Gain insight into SITES\, the certification process\, and engage in discussion on certification value\, challenges\, and opportunities. \n\nAPA members are entitled to the discounted member registration.  Registration for October 29 & 30 is just $315. October 31 and November 1 programs are individually priced ranging from $25 to $50.  Go to www.designonthedelaware.com for a complete conference schedule and registration. \nThe Design on the Delaware is listed on the Planning Education Certificate Maintenance section of the American Planning Associate website by date and provider name AIA Philadelphia.  For information go to www.designonthedelaware.com or contact pat@aiaphila.org. \nDesign on the Delaware is a collaborative conference examining the issues and opportunities of the built environment. Collaborating organizations include the American Planning Association Pennsylvania Chapter\, American Society of Landscape Architects Pennsylvania Delaware Chapter\, American Institute of Architects Philadelphia Chapter\, Urban Land Institute Philadelphia Chapter and 20 design and building professional associations.
