Preliminary Draft State Development and Redevelopment Plan Released!

The State Planning Commission has officially released the Preliminary Draft of the State Development and Redevelopment Plan, a pivotal milestone for New Jersey’s future growth. This is the first comprehensive update to the State Plan since 2001, and it represents a significant step forward in shaping an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient New Jersey.

APA New Jersey is proud to have contributed to this transformative effort as part of the Project’s Consultant Team.

Developed through a collaboration across all levels of government, the updated State Plan provides a comprehensive vision and framework to align state, county, and municipal land use policies. Focused on balanced, equitable, and sustainable growth, the Draft Plan identifies ten key priorities to address New Jersey’s most pressing challenges and opportunities:

  • Economic Development
  • Housing
  • Infrastructure
  • Revitalization and Recentering
  • Climate Change
  • Natural and Water Resources
  • Pollution and Environmental Clean-Up
  • Historic and Scenic Resources
  • Equity
  • Comprehensive Planning

A renewed emphasis on environmental justice underscores this update, ensuring that every community has a voice and a path toward shared prosperity.

Join the Conversation: Upcoming Public Hearings

As part of the cross-acceptance process, the State Planning Commission will host 21 public hearings – one in each county – beginning February 12, 2025, and continuing through April 16, 2025. These hearings provide a critical opportunity for counties and municipalities to align local land use policies with the updated Draft Plan, fostering greater consistency and collaboration statewide.

Stay tuned! A full schedule of county hearings will soon be available on the State Planning Commission’s website.
