The Passaic County Department of Planning and Economic Development seeks a driven and dedicated planning intern to assist with local government programs, grants, and technical studies while learning from leaders who have practiced planning in the private and public sectors.
Successful candidates shall assist the Planning Department in a wide range of transportation and land use projects within various rural, suburban, and urban settings. Qualified applicants should be familiar with transportation planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, complete streets, New Jersey land use and development, planning policy, sustainability and green infrastructure, historic preservation, and economic development.
Tasks will include working with the supervising planner on programs and technical studies, including Passaic County’s Complete Streets Implementation Program, open space grant program, and multiple bike and pedestrian implementation projects. Responsibilities will also include assisting planning staff and working on North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) grants and ongoing transportation planning activities associated with the annual Subregional Transportation Planning (STP) program.
The intern should be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Community & Regional Planning or a field closely related to design, environmental science, or civil engineering and will need to be available at least two (2) days a week up to a maximum of five (5) days per week. The Planning Department offices are at 401 Grand Street in Paterson, NJ.
