The Director of Multimodal and Freight Planning supervises technical staff over a spectrum of goods movement-related issues including but not limited to the development of plans, strategies, and projects related to the international, national, regional, and local movement of goods consistent with the agency’s Long Range Transportation Plan. Freight planning at the NJTPA is concerned with goods movement in the region, between regions as well as the local distribution of goods and packages (first- and last-mile delivery). It involves investigation and analysis of freight flows, the identification of infrastructure needs, developing and communicating freight-related data and analyses, and supporting the region’s stakeholders and local governments.
The agency considers all modes of freight transport, including trucking (and truck parking), rail, aviation, and maritime travel, access to and from Port Newark/Elizabeth, intermodal, and warehouse facilities, and last mile good movement deliveries. Additionally, the Freight Division represents the agency through cooperation and coordination with federal, state, regional, county, and local partner agencies, supporting a multi-jurisdictional transportation planning process.
The ideal candidate will have management experience, relevant technical knowledge in goods movement, be highly organized, and be able to excel in a collaborative environment. This is a hybrid position based in Newark, NJ with the option to work remotely part of the time.
