Assistant Township Planner (Toms River Township)

42 square mile municipality of 92,000 residents seeks NJ Licensed Planner (PP and AICP) with diverse planning background and municipal experience to address complex issues concerning land use and redevelopment, as well as grant management. Applicant should have familiarity and experience with zoning, affordable housing, redevelopment, economic development, and operations of both planning boards and zoning boards of adjustment. Experience in HUD CDBG Programs is highly desirable. Experience with CAFRA, Plan Endorsement & Grant Writing is also desirable. Successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field with at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience, or a Master’s Degree in Planning (Masters of City and Regional Planning (MCRP) or equivalent)) and 3 years of progressively responsible planning experience. At least 2 years of post-licensing experience with some supervisory is preferred. Working knowledge of GIS mapping sufficient to produce stand land use and zoning maps and Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word and Publisher are mandatory. Duties include: site plan reviews; coordinating review of development with other Township departments; coordination and collaboration with outside agencies at the local, county and state level; review & present development application, rezoning requests, conditional use permits and variances to boards and committees and the administration of grants. Must have the ability to conduct standard planning studies, reports and surveys and compile data for reporting. Strong communication and presentation skills are necessary.

Salary Range $45,500.00 – $73,800.00.
