Financing age-friendly initiatives do not have to be costly. Planners and local governments should give attention to multigenerational planning and the work underway in cities developing more age-friendly communities – from New York to Honolulu – who are taking creative steps to build their adaptive capacity\, optimize opportunities and cultivate synergies for community change.

With this level of uncertainty about policy and funding\, it can be difficult at the local level to think about projects like bike share\, which can take years to plan and large capital investments to fund. However\, data and research indicatethat millennials and boomers want livable communities where they can live\,work\, and play without having to get into a car. Mobility preferences andtrends are expanding beyond a single occupancy vehicle and cities and townsthat explore and provide safe multimodal transportation options are thriving. Albuquerque’sdowntown pilot bike share\, BICI (ashortened version of bicicleta\, the Spanish word for bicycle and pronounced“bee-see”) launched on May 15\, 2015\, with 15 stations and 75 bicycles amere seven months after local planners started working on the project. Througha creative partnership between the DowntownABQ MainStreet Initiative and the Mid-Region Council of Governments\, and through public-private funding\, Albuquerque was able to realize the first phase of BICI for residents andvisitors. Participants will learn how Albuquerque made BICI a reality without initialmajor capital investments and how the program will continue and grow.

DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW\nAbout the Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit: \nIt’s informative and enjoyable.  You can learn a lot\, and meet other people like you who want to engage the power of arts and culture to enhance communities.  You can also meet people from different fields or areas who can help inspire you and help you be more creative.  You can share what you’ve learned. \nThe Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit is one of the largest gatherings of people involved in the intersection of arts\, culture\, community improvement\, and local economic development.  In 2014\, it attracted more than 250 people.  They included public and elected officials\, leaders of community based organizations\, developers\, urban planners\, and leaders of cultural organizations and\, of course\, artists. \nThe 2014 Leadership Summit got rave reviews.  Everyone surveyed said they enjoyed the event.  Almost everyone said they learned a lot and got useful information.  We’re planning to make the 2016 program even better. \nThe  Summit is produced by The National Consortium for Creative Placemaking and a wide variety of partners. \nAbout Creative Placemaking: \nCreative placemaking is a new way to make communities more livable and prosperous. It’s more than doing events\, creating arts districts or building cultural centers.  It builds connections among people\, issues and the arts.  The arts offer powerful tools to enhance quality of life for individuals\, communities and societies.  Creative placemaking helps practitioners hone their skills and engage the arts more effectively.  Learn more about creative placemaking \nAbout The National Consortium for Creative Placemaking: \nThe National Consortium for Creative Placemaking builds connections\, capacity and community for better creative placemaking.  Through the Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit\, Community Coaching\, and other activities\, we: \n\n\nHelp build local climates that are more open to creativity\, diversity and new ideas \n\n\nMotivate people who rarely speak to one another to work together \n\n\nInspire stakeholders to generate creative ideas for their communities – and take responsibility for making them happen \n\n\nRespect the values and distinct qualities of local communities \n\n\nHelp stakeholders become more creative and adaptable when faced with difficult challenges \n\n\nDevelop high-performing teams for community enhancement through arts and culture \n\n\nEngage key influences and levers of influence at local\, county and state levels \n\n\nPromote civil dialogue and intercultural collaboration – and help stakeholders build their skills to lead inclusive collaborations

SUMMARY:New (Webinar) Data Tools for Supporting Analysis of Equitable Development and Environmental Justice
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW\nUnderstanding the challenges andopportunities communities face—economic\, social\, and environmental—is a prerequisite for making investments that achieve their goals. To respond to this need\, environmental justice stakeholders have begun developing analytical tools that can give communities rich and accessible information for supporting local goals for environmental protection and equitable development in cities and regions. This webinar will cover two of these tools – EPA’s EJSCREEN\, an environmental justice screening and mapping tool\, and the National Equity Atlas a comprehensive data resource to track\, measure\, and make the case for inclusive growth developed by PolicyLink and the Program for Environmental and Regional Equity. The presentations will explain what these tools are\, how they have been used in real world scenarios to advance equity in local and regional development practices\, followed by questions and answers.

DESCRIPTION:New Jersey Future’s Redevelopment Forum is a daylong conference that brings together more than 500 municipal and state leaders and leading professionals in planning\, development\, law\, transportation\, architecture\, construction\, environmental conservation and historic preservation to share best practices and lessons learned.
