Mirah Becker is the Director of Comprehensive Planning for the Middlesex County Department of Planning. She prepares testimony on key legislation for County Freeholders and oversees the development of the county’s Comprehensive Plan and new Wastewater Management Plan.
Mirah’s work experience includes the development of greenway plans, preparation of fair share criteria, and authoring sections of Environmental Impact Statements. In the private sector, Mirah specialized in environmental compliance and worked for an energy company based in Fairfield, New Jersey. In addition to providing expert testimony before land use boards throughout New Jersey, she has served as a project manager on master plans, reexamination reports, and redevelopment plans. Mirah has also managed the development of the Manalapan Watershed Restoration and Preservation Plan, overseen the construction of a rain garden in Thompson Park, and has written several successful grant applications.
Mirah attended the University of Chicago, where she majored in Geography and graduated with highest honors. After college, she attended Columbia University’s School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation and received an MS in Urban Planning. Mirah was awarded a traveling fellowship from Columbia to attend Kunming University, China, where she played a lead role in the creation of an urban waterfront plan.
