Welcome to the webpage of the APA-NJ Hazard Mitigation and Recovery Planning (HMRP) Committee. Through this page, we’ll keep you updated on mitigation and recovery planning and events in New Jersey. The committee s a group of planners, related professions and representatives from key government and NGO organizations who have an interest and/or expertise in mitigation and recovery planning. We have identified two primary tracks for this year’s work agenda: 1) to provide planning services to communities and our professional membership; and, 2) to pursue a dialogue with state, local and federal officials on long-term, sustainable planning policies that reduce risk and loss of life and property.
On December 1, the APA-NJ Executive Committee held a round table discussion with dozens of leaders throughout the state to discuss a comprehensive strategic planning approach necessary to aid the entire region affected by Hurricane Sandy – rebuilding today as well as resiliency in the future.
One thing is certain: we are faced with a significant task ahead of us all. In light of the recent devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, our members and allied professional partners and advocates have an opportunity to aid in disaster recovery in a way that takes the experience of past efforts of similar magnitude into account.
