Proficient ability in GIS-based mapping and analysis for illustrative and analytic purposes is preferred. Job responsibilities include: conduct site visits to photo-document properties and neighborhoods, develop profiles of current and completed projects, research and writing (legal documents, environmental constraints, historical designations, etc.) for property development, and examine development applications to prepare reports for client land use boards. Administrative tasks including organization of documents for presentations, printing, filing, binding. Assist and support project managers or firm’s principals. Additional tasks that would leverage the unique skills or interests of selected candidate.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree at minimum, or be pursuing a Master’s degree in planning or a related field. It is strongly recommended that the applicant be pursuing further education in the planning field and is passionate about the field and the work that a planning firm is involved with. The ideal applicant is naturally curious and deeply passionate about improving cities and the lives within.
Applicant will be an independent self-starter with abilities in MS Office, GIS, and other analytical and planning tools. They should possess strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. Applicant should possess strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with other project managers to complete necessary tasks. Time management is critical; candidates must have the ability to accurately estimate required levels of effort. Flexibility in the applicant’s schedule is preferred; ideally the applicant would have the ability to spend extra hours when necessary to complete a project on time.
The intern is expected to work between 15-24 hours a week in our Newark office, though some telecommuting will be considered.
